“给我盛一碗。”徐立威说道。
王大娘一看来人是县太爷，手一抖，勺子磕在桶沿上。
“大、大人，您怎么......”
“盛一碗。”
徐立威重复了一遍。
王大娘不敢违抗，颤巍巍地从桶里舀了一勺，倒进徐立威递过来的碗里。
徐立威端着碗，走到火把光亮处。
碗里的东西，与其说是粥，倒更像稀米汤或者淘米水。
米汤是灰白色的，上面漂着几粒发黑的陈米。
徐立威从袖子里抽出一根筷子，那是他特意带来的。
他将筷子插进碗中央，手一松。
啪嗒。
筷子直接倒向碗边，碰出一声脆响。
立筷不倒，是古时候赈灾粥的标准。
若是筷子浮起来或者倒了，说明这粥稀得能照见人影。
徐立威看着那根倒下的筷子，沉默了片刻。
他端起碗，喝了一口。
没有米香，只有一股淡淡的霉味和水的涩味。
这就是他的子民吃的“饭”。
徐立威将碗放下，转身走向正在另一边忙活的老根。
老根正吆喝着维持秩序，看到徐立威过来，刚要咧嘴笑，却看到了徐立威手里那碗几乎全是水的粥。
笑容僵在脸上。
徐立威把碗递到老根面前。
“这就是你说的粥？”
老根低下头，搓着手上的泥垢：“大人，没法子啊。”
“咱们库里的粮，满打满算就那么点。
今天虽然多了二十袋面粉，可那面粉精贵，我寻思着留给那二十一个新卒和屯田队的壮劳力吃，剩下的做成面汤掺进来。”
“这桶里，已经是加了面汤的了。”
徐立威盯着他：“照这么吃，还能吃几天？”"
